Azilal Vintage Rug "tiipi" 75x185 cm
Azilal Vintage Rug "tiipi" 75x185 cm
Tiipi is an old Azilal rug where geometric pattern and confident use of colour give a small piece remarkable presence. Against a natural ivory wool ground, shades of blue, violet, deep red and brown form rhythmic, mountain-like zigzags that shift along the length of the rug.
There is a wonderful freedom to the composition, characteristic of old Azilal weaving. The pattern is never perfectly symmetrical; colours and shapes move intuitively across the surface, revealing small changes and handmade details the closer you look. The reverse shows the underlying weave particularly well, offering a glimpse into the construction and craftsmanship behind the piece.
On the reverse, there is also one of the most touching details of this rug. Recycled plastic fibre has been used in the warp, a material commonly found in everyday sacks and packaging in Morocco. This humble material has been given a new life as a durable part of a hand-knotted rug. It is barely noticeable in the finished surface, but it says a great deal about the rug’s origin, practicality and the creative use of materials that were available.
Thanks to its narrow proportions, Tiipi works beautifully in a hallway, entrance, beside a bed, or anywhere a small but strong piece of textile art can have the attention it deserves.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Authentic Moroccan wool rugs are crafted from high-quality natural materials. They are built to last, and their ease of maintenance is unmatched.
Wool repels dirt and moisture
The untreated wool used in Moroccan rugs naturally repels dirt, liquids, and odors thanks to the natural oils in the fibers. It does not become statically charged or attract dust, and it doesn’t shed excessively. These properties make Moroccan wool rugs a great fit even for homes with children or pets.
Air out or vacuum without a brush
To refresh the rug, air it out in dry weather in the shade. You can also vacuum it on low power without a rotating brush. Avoid strong vacuuming, as it may wear down the fibers over time. A good alternative is to flip the rug over and vacuum the floor beneath to remove dust and debris.
Clean stains with genuine Marseille soap
Blot fresh stains immediately with paper towels. For dried stains, use fragrance-free Marseille soap, which contains fat and will not strip the wool’s natural oils. This helps preserve the rug’s soft sheen and healthy appearance. Always use authentic, unscented Marseille soap.
Avoid water washing – use a professional when needed
The plant-based dyes used in the wool yarns can be sensitive to water. If your rug clearly needs a full wash, we recommend using a professional cleaner that specializes in Berber rugs.
Store in a dry and stable environment
If the rug is not in use, roll it gently and wrap it in a breathable fabric such as cotton. Wool fibers can react to humidity and temperature changes, so it’s important to store the rug in a dry, well-ventilated space.
About Azilal Rugs
About Azilal Rugs
Azilal rugs typically feature a light background with diverse, asymmetrical, and abstract patterns. Their color use ranges from monochrome black and white to vivid neon accents. Azilals are true works of art.
Compared to Beni Ouarain rugs, Azilals have a looser knot density and often a shorter pile, allowing the base weave to show between the knots — a distinctive feature of this style. They are primarily knotted using symmetrical knots. Azilal rugs originate from the High Atlas region of Morocco.
